- Objective
- Audit the little black boxes and find which one contains a clue to the Green Eye.
- You are
- An employee at a company, code-named “Socrates.” Your supervisor is Kate.
- Clue
- A case handled by Kate’s father: “Sixfold Answer: The Necklace 2” 。
“Socrates!!!!” A deafening howl.
You are startled by the noise. It is Kate, your supervisor, calling you.
“What is going on here?!” She slams a little black box onto your desk. You cannot see anything inside.
“Isn’t this just a little black box?”
“Nonsense! This is auditing! Review and calculation! We call it μέγα τύπος!”
“…A large model?”
“Yes, yes! Or was it μέγα παράδειγμα?”
You know something she does not: Ancient Greek has no word for “large model.” But you keep it to yourself.
You think for one fifty-thousandth of a second, then understand one thing: you know that you know nothing.
You smile.
“What are you laughing at, Socrates? Having a code name does not make you a philosopher!”
〖Should you talk back? Do it!〗
【Don’t.】
/ Both of you, go away. /
/ Listen. Three principles of communication: control your emotions; try at least three different ways to say it; never stop trying. /
You take a deep breath.
“Okay. Sorry, Kate. I’ll audit it.”
“…Fine.” Kate sighs. “We do not have much time. We must find the Green Eye, and research needs money.”
She slams two identical little black boxes onto the desk. There are three in total, labeled A, B, and C.
“Only one box contains a clue to the Green Eye. Each box has a sentence on it, but only one is true. My father used to say something. Do you know it?”
Hint 1 · Direction
Kate’s father is detective Pusen Wall. This sentence appears in “Sixfold Answer: The Necklace 2.”
Hint 2 · Method
Find “after eliminating the other possibilities” in the article.
Hint 3 · Almost the answer
Five characters, meaning “hard to believe.”
“You CiiaKua!” Kate says.
“…Incredible.” Kate repeats it. “All right, let’s start eliminating.”
The three little black boxes read:
- A
- “The clue is not here.”
- B
- “The clue is in A.”
- C
- “The clue is not here.”
Hint 1 · Direction
Test each possibility: if the clue is in A, which of the three sentences are true or false?
Hint 2 · Method
If it is in A: B is true and C is true—two true sentences, impossible. If it is in B: A is true and C is true—also impossible.
Hint 3 · Almost the answer
Only the last box remains.
You open the box. It is empty. Kate stares at you.
C。
You open C.
There is nothing inside.
Kate is silent for one fifty-thousandth of a second.
“…That’s true.” She actually laughs. “If the Green Eye could fit in a box, I would have found it long ago.”
For a moment, you glimpse Kate’s eyes burning with a blue-green light.
As if someone is watching her through this place.
“Stop daydreaming, Socrates.” Kate pushes the three empty boxes aside. “Do not belittle yourself, and do not aim beyond your abilities. You have potential.”
…Schrödinger’s little black box, then.
Interesting enough.
Thinking this, you begin exploring .
